My Time

Darkness overcomes me
A single lit candle remains
The only light to lead the way
My salvation
But I am blinded
Daggers behind my eyes
I am unable to move
Paralyzed
Now I must remain where I was left
All those years ago
Though it still feels like yesterday.

My will has almost left me completely
I know I’m still alive
But part of me has already died
Many years ago
Beneath this same night sky
Under this exact moon
Forgotten and ceasing to exist
Taking misery with it
Memories and the losses we endured
Sparing my life
While it willingly took it’s own.

Now I face the same fate
Looking me squarely in the eyes
Daring me to make my move
Hesitation
But knowing what needs to be done
Accepting that I will never be free
My path has already been laid
Blood draining, growing colder
I am quickly slipping away
I have come to the end of my time
And with a smile
I close my eyes one final time.
